Joint disease is common
- 66% of horses have a lameness associated with joints
- 20% of horses have taken more than 1 year off work
- 36% had developed their condition by the time they were 8 years old
Joint disease is costly!
- 32% spent more than the equivalent of £2000 on joint disease
- 64% needed up to 5 vet visits
- 21% required up to 10 vet visits
- 17% missed more than 20 competitions
Joint disease is worrying
- 76% of riders worry about the horse developing osteoarthritis
- 31% had to retire their horse early
- 86% would not buy a horse with joint problems
74% use a joint supplement
